Just got a little book from my sister ... "Choose Joy" by Kay Warren (Rick Warren's wife) ... who had apparently written the manuscript just prior to her adult son committing suicide.
She writes: "Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that everything is going to be all right, and the determined CHOICE to praise God in all things."
She goes on to say: "There's nothing in that definition about happy FEELINGS, because as we all know, happiness is fleeting."
So in the midst of the uncertainty and rejection of estrangement, WE CAN AND MUST CHOOSE JOY ... even when we don't 'feel' happy ... we can have JOY, knowing that He's got this ... He has us and he has our kids and our grandkids in His mighty hand and it is God who will make things right for us ... In the meantime ... let's PRAISE Him because He is worthy.... God bless each one of you....

Good stuff! Thank you for sharing these specific words. I've had a hard time "feeling" happy this Christmas season, but recognizing the difference between happiness and joy - true joy in His faithfulness to us - is a cornerstone for moving forward. Thank you! God Bless to you too...

What a truth! Joy is a choice in this place called life. Estrangement brings us down. So many people we know are going through other kinds of trials as well.
I needed this truth today. Let His praise be on our lips. He is our only true joy. The One and Only we can count on.

I honestly felt the JOY of the Lord this Christmas season. Unfortunately, I allowed the enemy to come in and take control of my thoughts. But, I am back on track. I need to cling to one of my favorite scriptures: "Greater is HE that is in me, than he who is in the world". I need to let His greatness come through.

Thank you. This is a horrendous time of the year for me for a number of reasons. I would like to find some joy.

One thing I have come to realize these past few years is that "joy" is not the emotion of being "happy". Rather it is a constant. For me, it is the assurance and hope and peace I have in Jesus, knowing that He will walk through life with me (in the good times and thru the trials). I have found that the more time I spend in His Word and pray, I become closer to Him and realize that "joy" is present within me. That is my prayer for you, Culda.
