We have made it past Thanksgiving...now the joyful celebration of the birth of Christ is upon us. What tools can we use to help us get thru this wonderful time with just what we have now...which is a new normal (estrangement) that none of us want but must carry at this time. JeepGirl's message to Wonderbugg spoke to my heart and pulled me from an emotional trap that the enemy had set for me. With her words came new insights into a situation and will help me as I carry her reminders and not listen to the flesh that the enemy would love to see happen... we have many strong prayer Warriors here let's plan reminders to truly and strongly look to Jesus...

This is such a helpful post. It reminds us to plan ahead spiritually for the Holiday season. Jeepgirl has already shared how vital it is to seek our Savior first. The enemy is standing ready to bring us down if we do not have a battle plan. Our battle belongs to the Lord but we need to daily stand firm in His Word and prayer lest we fall. We can not go through a battle called estrangement on our own with an enemy who seeks to devour and crush us. We must put on the armour of God to get through as a victorious soldier. "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Not by the strength of my hands but by the power of His spirit.
This will give us hope. Will we have sad and emotional moments during the holiday season? Of course. We are human. He understands. We understand. We get one another. We are here to encourage one another with reminders. Be kind to yourselves as we begin the Holiday season one day at a time.

"One day at a time".... lindajoan just wrote. As often as I read and heard those words and the entire Serenity Prayer, I never knew its origin. I thought it was simply from AA and, regretfully, didn't think it really applied to me. When I was feeling down the other day, my dh (not an AA person) reminded me of that prayer when we talked about not "expecting" but "accepting". This morning, when I read the end of lindajoan's post, something stirred inside of me and I had this urge to do a little research.
Please forgive my ignorance regarding this prayer, but I just discovered that the author, Reinhold Niebuhr, was a Christian theologian and later, AA adopted it. And, I thought it wasn't mean for me.(lol) Forgive me, Lord, and thank you for your patience. It is for me and so many others. I will, now, put this to memory.
Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
--Reinhold Niebuhr

I need this prayer daily. Sometimes life can be challenging, especially in estrangement, and this lovely prayer reminds me that this is all temporary, and our eternity is in peace with Our Savior. Thankyou to all the wonderful, godly women on this site who help remind me that this journey is about walking faithfully with God, and not to allow the darkness to settle in.
Just as Jeepgirl said, I too, want to put this prayer to memory, so I can recite it in my heart when I feel challenged.

I had only ever seen the first four lines of the poem, and while they speak volumes in those four lines, the rest is well worth knowing as well! Thank you JeepGirl for taking the time to research it and share it with us.
