Hi everyone. I am not a big moviegoer and I normally hesitate to refer friends to a movie, restaurant, etc. but I loved "I Can Only Imagine" and have been telling everyone to go see it. Before seeing the movie, friends told me it was "excellent" and to "bring tissues". They were right.
I am sure most of you heard the song by Mercy Me, "I Can Only Imagine." It was popular quite a few years ago but it truly became a classic. It was not only played on Christian radio but also on secular stations. I feel that even if you don't have the same background as the writer of the song/movie, it will still touch you in some way and make you think about an area in your own life. The movie is about forgiveness and redemption. Aren't they the two most important things we pray for concerning our estranged adult children? Aren't they the only things that will bring about reconciliation?
I honestly loved the entire movie but there was one part, in particular, that opened my eyes to how my es might feel. When the dad asked for forgiveness, the son could not understand what his father was saying or how he could possibly forgive him..... (Sorry, that is all I can say. Cannot be a movie spoiler.)
If you don't want to cry in a movie theater, then I recommend to wait for it to come out on dvd/Netflix,etc. Blessings everyone....

I agree - and actually this could have been my story --- my mother was very physically and verbally abusive. I was very shy and fearful --- and slightly hopeful --- everyday I woke up hoping she would love me instead of slapping me, that she would love Jesus instead of damning me to hell, that I wouldn't endure another beating or whipping for the slightest offense (mainly being in her presence). Fear turned to bitterness, anger, and hatred (though I never told a soul). Fast forward to when she was 79 --- she accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord because God gave her cancer (like Bart) and God gave my mother and I complete reconciliation. God made up for all the decades I never had with her. From her deathbed she exclaimed, "This was both the best and worst year of my life. The worst, because of the pain (of cancer); the best because of the love of God and you (my daughter)." God had me praying and witnessing to her for 47 years --- NEVER GIVE UP, dear ones. God listens and He longs to answer this prayer for salvation, forgiveness, and reconciliation. I am going now to church --- and sharing with other teens the testimony God has give me. Please pray.

Jeep, Thank you for sharing about this wonderful movie. I was not aware of it. Forgiveness and reconciliation are definitely our prayers.
Everloving, that is an awesome testimony. I am praying as you go to share this with others. Praise the Lord for what he did in the life of you and your mother.

Thank you for sharing your story, Everloving, and prayers for today and for each time God calls your to share. And just like I commented earlier, every situation may be different but the movie seems to touch everyone in the way they need to be touched. Can you believe the Holy Spirit's presence in a movie theater? Sometimes we(myself, included) forget He is everywhere. Just have to receive Him. Sending hugs out to everyone....

That was so encouraging Everloving! I really would love to see it, but I’ll probably have to wait until it comes to Redbox or Netflix. But you all have made me want to go even more!

God is blessing the movie. It was produced by Hollywood with consideration for the Christian audience they expected would attend. They did it with a budget of 7K and hoped to bring in 2K the first weekend --- 12K came in! Nothing like sharing a true story of what Christ can do in the life of an everyday Christian!!!
