If you have health problems that prevent you from fasting food I heard a terrific tip from a sermon by David Wilkerson. He said his faith really took off when he fasted tv. Wow! Would I love the measure of faith he had! Not easy when your spouse blasts the TV and has no respect for what you are doing. But it can be done! I still allow myself to listen to sound doctrine and praise music on my ipad. Just no silly things for entertainment. Also learned something from Leonard Ravenhill (lately I been into old dead dudes who had a measure of wisdom that is mostly missing these days). He said praise more and ask less when you pray. He wasn't talking about praise music per se...which is fine. So, I started listening to Leonard Ravenhills prayers. He just starts saying the truth. Example - " Oh God You sent your son from the wonders of Heaven to walk with us. And on and on..." So I started speaking the truth that I knew. Wow!!!! My prayers changed immediately and feel so powerful! You will be surprised at how much truth is treasured in your heart. You will never run out of things to say! You'll just want to lay at His feet and gaze on Him. It is powerful! Hope that helps. It sure helped me. We need all the pumping up we can get seeing the place of pain we are in!!!

My husband and I just returned from a Christian couples retreat in Maryland. The conference center has no TV's in the rooms. I confess, we looked at our phones a few times and I used my tablet for a short time, but no news, etc. and for the most part, it was a tv-free weekend and a wonderful one. We met lots of new people, had good conversations during meal times, spent a few hours in a quaint, nearby town, and actually "talked" to each other. Speakers were great and Phil Keaggy was the entertainment, who my dh and really like.
Point is, I am in total agreement with wonderbugg. Fasting from tv can be so good and more healthier for us than we realize. When we arrived home, I (yes, it was me(lol) who turned on tv in kitchen. You know...just to catch up. It was on for only a minute or two and I turned it off. I wanted that simplified, stressfree weekend to last just a little longer.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend Jeepgirl. It is a mountain top experience. We all are in such need of spiritual refreshment and a change in scenery is good for the soul. Life (especially when we have gone through estrangement) can be so stressful. We need His peace for our bodies, minds, and souls.
